The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national-level entrance exam. It is conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA). The candidates who are willing to pursue MBA and PGDM programs should qualify this entrance exam. It is held four times a year (February, May, September, December) in three modes: Paper-Based Test (PBT), Computer-Based Test (CBT), and Internet-Based Test (IBT). The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) across five sections and lasts 150 minutes. MAT scores are accepted by 600+ B-schools across India, making it a popular choice for management aspirants. There is no negative marking, and the difficulty level is moderate.

Steps of Application

  1. Registration: Visit the official AIMA website and create an account using a valid email ID and mobile number.
  2. Fill Application Form: Enter personal, academic, and contact details.
  3. Upload Documents: Upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature as per the specified format.
  4. Select Test Mode: Choose from CBT (Computer-Based Test), PBT (Paper-Based Test), or IBT (Internet-Based Test).
  5. Pay Application Fee: Make the payment online using a debit/credit card, net banking, or UPI.
  6. Review & Submit: Check all entered details and submit the application.
  7. Download Confirmation: Save and print the confirmation page for future reference.

  • For One Mode (PBT or CBT or IBT) – ₹2,100
  • For Two Modes (PBT+CBT or IBT+PBT or IBT+CBT) – ₹3,300

Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Final-year students can also apply.

2. Age Limit:

  • No upper age limit.

3. Number of Attempts:

  • No restriction on the number of attempts.

4. Nationality:

  • Indian and foreign nationals can apply.

5. Work Experience:

  • Not required (Fresh graduates can apply).

 

Mode of Exam

MAT is conducted in three different modes:

  1. Paper-Based Test (PBT) – Offline mode with pen and paper.
  2. Computer-Based Test (CBT) – Online mode at designated test centres.
  3. Internet-Based Test (IBT) – Online mode taken from home with AI-proctored supervision.

Candidates can choose any mode or opt for multiple modes to improve their chances of admission.

Counselling and Admission

The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) does not have a centralized counselling process. The qualified candidates can apply directly to participating management institutes based on their MAT scores. The admission process typically includes Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and/or Written Ability Test (WAT).

The step-by-step process is listed below:

1. Check Institute Eligibility – Review the admission criteria and cut-off scores of your preferred institutes.

2. Apply to Institutes – Submit applications with your MAT scorecard and other required documents.

3. Shortlisting by Institutes – Institutes shortlist candidates based on MAT scores and academic performance.

4. GD/PI/WAT Rounds – Shortlisted candidates attend Group Discussions, Personal Interviews, or Written Ability Tests as per institute requirements.

5. Final Selection – Institutes evaluate overall performance and release admission offers.

6. Fee Payment & Admission Confirmation – Selected candidates must pay the admission fee to secure their seat.
